Final Drills

Disembarking from the shuttle, Reimi was quick to do her own scouting, but with her sniper rifle's scope rather than her own omnitool. It would be with that tool that she'd be taking her shots, so picking out landmarks with it would only serve to help.

The surface of Ganymede was uneven and craggy, creating a lot of natural high and low spots. Until that found the complex itself though, they couldn't really tell if any of them would make good sniper nests or not. Swiping through her omnitool, where brought up a basic map of the moon. "The complex should be this way." the Asari says, starting north east from their drop off.

The omnitool ma certainly proved more useful than Reimi's sniper scope was, and after figuring out she wouldn't be able to see anything of note, hoisted her rifle onto her shoulder and followed along with the rest of the group.

The map would display on everyone's omnitool, if they wanted to look at it; though it wasn't very detailed; showing little more than simple topography of the moon with a marker indicating a possible location for the complex they were looking for.

The moon was uninhabited and barren, making it easy to traverse aside from the terrain itself. They soon came upon the complex, a small building surrounded by several smaller ones. Large white mechs moved between some of the smaller builders, emblazoned on the sides were symbols that appeared to be gems flanked by two prongs. "Looks like this is it." Shae comments, hidden behind a small rise; though it was elevated, their current location wouldn't suit well as a sniper nest.

While their position wasn't suitable for a sniper's roost, Reimi did have sight on the facility, and more importantly, the defenders. She cringed at the sight of the large mechs, specifically because of the view screens in the front.

"I don't know what those are, but this won't work," she says. "Loki or humanoids would be easy enough, can't really snipe something that size..."

"That's where the rest of us will come in." Shae explains, getting an agreement from Barrow and Graal. "You hit the smaller targets, and we'll take care of the mechs. First, we need to find a better place for you. Can you check around with your scope, see any higher ground?" There was an outcrop of rock along the northern edge of the encampment, but it would require going through the complex or skirting around the edge.

"There's an outcropping on the other side," Reimi replies in short order, even as she was using her scope to check around the outskirts around the rest of the compound.

"The other side..." Shae repeats, looking to where Reimi had been aiming when she said it. "We'll have to skirt around the camp then. Or the three of us get started while you're moving. If all the attention is on us, they won't know you're coming."

"It'll be risky, just the three of you, without my coverfire," Reimi remarks. "But if that's what the three of you want to do, I'll get moving and start helping as soon as I can."

"You're probably right... We don't even know how many there are yet..." Shae says, looking back over the camp. There were only two of the large mechs, but quite a number of people and some smaller mechs; Lokis.

"I think we should all skirt around, at least until we're closer to the outcropping for Saionji." Barrow adds, keeping low; though between his size and Graal's, it wasn't easy to hide.

"Let's get moving, then," Reimi suggests, getting started herself. "No point waiting around here hoping we don't get detected..."

As they began to move, Shae kept to the inside of the group; putting herself between the encampment and the rest of the team. She kept an eye on the camp as they made their way along its edge, ready to protect them should the need arise. It was hard to tell what they were up to all the way here on Ganymede, but they likely wouldn't find out until they got inside to look at whatever database they had. "Any thoughts on what they're doing out here?"

"Well, they're rebels in the Sol system, seems likely they're going after Earth," Reimi remarks. "Could be wrong, but that's all that really makes sense."

"Whatever they're doing, it sounds like they don't have the permission or clearance to be out here." Shae muses as they near the outcropping. She stops when they're a short distance away, letting Reimi go the last distance alone. "You get into position, we'll make our way down." the asari says, taking point as she starts toward the camp with Barrow and Graal.

"Best to keep radio silence until we start fighting," Reimi suggests. "They might be able to pick up the transmissions, maybe even find where we are."

"Good idea, going silent." Shae says, shutting down her communications so the signal couldn't be tracked; descending towards the camp with Barrow and Graal. The outcrop would offer Reimi a good view of the encampment, though there were still a few blind spots behind the buildings that she wouldn't be able to see.

As soon as the other three started heading off, Reimi did too. She wanted to get to her outcropping, situated, and calmed before the others arrived.

Once she was in position and ready she took aim, watching the head of one of the rebels very carefully, waiting for the right moment. Without comms, she couldn't know if the others were ready, but she felt she'd given them enough time to arrive, so she pulled the trigger...

There was no sound from Reimi's shot, nothing to give it away until the soldier was hit by the round; their body pushed from the impact, dead before he hit the ground. A call must have gone up among the remaining rebels, as they immediately began to scramble, looking for the shooter. Their attention however was drawn to a large biotic explosion that detonated around one of the large mechs, and then Shae, Graal and Barrow; with the aliens getting most of the attention.

As the firefight began in earnest, Shae took point; a biotic shield covering her front as she raised her right arm.

Reimi knew there'd be no sound in the vacuum of space, and already had her next shot lined up before they could even react. Unfortunately, the Mantis was only able to fire a single shot per clip. Ejecting it, she slammed a new one home, but by the time she was ready again, the base was in a state of panic, forcing her to find a new target.

There weren't a lot of places to find cover in the encampment, beyond the buildings themselves; but that applied for both Delta team and the rebels. So far, none of the rebels were putting much effort into finding a sniper as their attention seemed to be on Shae and Graal, even more so than Barrow; despite him being down there with them. This let him set up his turret, while Shae and Graal tried to close some ground using the asari's shield, and allowed Reimi time to set up shots.

Another silent shot rang out, another headshot on one of the rebels helping to even the odds, which still stood against them. Instead of taking aim again right away, this time Reimi reloaded before taking aim again. With how quickly she was going through ammo, she wouldn't be able to keep this up long, but she felt she was still of more use as a sniper for now.

As another of the rebel was taken down, the remaining seemed to clue in that there was still a sniper around, though it was difficult to look for Reimi when they were under attack. Shae, Barrow and Graal were keeping the rebels pinned down, but they were also pinned down; their fire tearing through the Asari's shield quickly when she raised it, though it was deflecting some of the projectiles back towards the rebels.

While the rebels taking cover meant Reimi would be able to take out fewer of them, it put them at a disadvantage; they'd need to keep out of her firing arc. They couldn't pinpoint her exact position, but they knew the general direction the shots were coming from.

The LOKI mechs, on the other hand, weren't programmed to worry about incoming fire, so they didn't take cover. Passing by one of those cover positions, the sniper took aim and blasted the head off, knocking one of the mechs down. Built into the model was an automatic self-destruct if beheaded. such as with a sniper round, putting one of the rebels in danger from that impending explosion.

Preparing her next shot, Reimi fired up her omnitool, setting it to scan frequencies. As an engineer, she'd possibly be able to tap into the enemy's communications, which she could possibly forward to the rest of her team, giving them additional vital information.

There were no attempts to offer surrender or demand it, on open or closed channels as Reimi broke into their communications. The LOKI mech exploded just as Reimi expected it would, before the rebel was able to get away from it.

Slowly, the two large mechs began their approach towards the team; one of them firing a missile that narrowly missed Barrow after ricocheting off Shae's shield.

A disadvantage to playing sniper was Reimi was too far to use her special skills. Had she been closer she'd of been able to pull at least a large portion of the shield off the two large mechs, but she wasn't. The most she could do was fire a shot at the closer of the two; because of their size, hiding from her scope wasn't so easy, and it was hard to miss such a large target with an accurate weapon.
